hi peeps im new to fishkeeping but my partner had fish years ago....

my partner would like to no why you put media in middle of the fx5 container when you have the sponges around the side and

is it neccesary to put the extra media in the canister...

hes asking this question because the only filters hes ever used is fluval 4 which only contain sponge like material inside..

and depending what size tank he had he would put in more fluval filters ...

can you just put more sponges in the centre of the media holders or just leave them ..

and if you put media in what would people suggest for the media....thanks

They are designed like that for a reason or two - to give a larger surface area for bacteria to grow and also because they are different stages of filtration to help keep the water clearer.

The larger volume of water, the larger surface area of media required and also it is wise to have at least 3 levels of filtration on volumes such as the FX5 has been designed for.

Happy fishing :D
