Fluval FX filters and hooded tanks

Hi!

How does this combination work? I’m looking at getting an FX yet have a hood with port holes for cables and hoses. The FX rim connector appears incompatible with this idea.

Are people not using the rim connectors? Are they modifying (sawing!) the hoods?
