Hi there my Fluval 3+ has broken, i've been looking for a replacement but i have only ever used fluval so i dont know what to look for other than that. Shall i get a fluval 4+ or is there a better one out there?

Any advice appreciated, but need to get one today, so fast advice here would be fantastic

I've never used a canister but from what I hear, while being the most expensive (of course), eheim are the best quality canisters

I would certainly look at switching to an external filter. The Fluval+ range are OK as internals go but external filter's are much more efficient and of course, don't take up any space in the tank, indeed they actually increase the total water volume slightly.

They are of course, more expensive though. Eheim are widely regarded as the best available (I agree) but Tetratec are very good and much cheaper.

Check Petco, if you have one close. But, do it quickly. The ones in Green Bay have been selling Eheim's cheap. I got one for a 60 gallon,Ecco 3224, for $120. I don't know how long the sale will go for, but it's usually about a week or so.

We don't have petco in the UK - closes would be across the ocean ;)

If your tank is 20 gallons + I'd definitely go for an external Eheim :good:

yup agreed go for the external eheim

i had a fluval 4+ and i can only describe it with words i should not use on a family forum. suffice to say i do not have it anymore

Hi mate, I recently bought an EX700 from zooplus for a very good price (cheaper than ebay) and super super quiet.

I have never used anything else, but this seems like an awesome filter!

:D

But umm , why not give HOB's a try, is limited on options, Aquaclears provide adequate space for media, and tons of options.

Because hobs are not easily available / popular in the UK at all. And the OP is in the UK.

I like the fluval internals, problem is they tend to have their impellors break quite quickly. Agreed with other posters, you can't beat externals but if this isn't possible then stick with the fluval + range!

Nelly I love fluval too :hyper: :hyper: sounds like a youtube stripper :hyper: :hyper:

I use them in all my tanks and think their great but did change to fluval external on my large tank and it works like heaven, crystal clear water all the time, its a fluval 350 but you can get smaller versions

I have a rena and it is very silent and does a good job. Easy to prime and setup, but It remains to be seen how long it lasts for me. I will probably try an eheim next though to see what everyones talking about.
