Hi, I have just got a fluval duo 1000 with a 204 and a 304 exernal filter. Im fairly new to this but im quite suprised at how the filter hoses attach to the filters. they seem to just slide over with a rubber bushing. Obviously if either of the hoses pop off you will get water siphoning either out of the hose or through the filter.

Im going on holiday next week and I intend to leave the tank cycling but im quite worried that one of the hoses will pop off whilst im on holiday and flood the house...

How likely is this? does it ever happen? how can i prevent it?

thanks,

Pete.

There should be a locking nut under where the hose pushes on that will tighten up over the rubber end of the hose to lock it in place. Using this, I have never had a hose come off my filter. Hope this helps.

yea there should be a grey piece that spins freely with no hoses. with the hoses it spins and threads upwards over the rubber ends.

yeah i have tigtened them up. I have also put some wireties on just for extra reassurance.

The guy in the fish shop told me that new hoses would be a good idea but they were 6 quid and i needed four and i think he was just trying to bump my bill up :D
