I bought a Fluval C3, but I have 2 concerns: 1. When I first set it up it made a rattling noise so I lubed the impeller and impeller shaft with Vaseline and that helped a little bit, but it still makes an audible hum and very slight rattling noise and 2. I'm wondering if it will be enough filtration for a 29 gallon tall with 22 fish (cardinal tetras, lemon tetras, Celebes rainbows or green fire tetras, and otocinclus'). Is the C4 quieter than the C3, will the noise coming from my C3 eventually go away?

hello, how long has it been making a rattling noise for?

ok, mine rattled for a few hours when i first got it but never for that long - sorry, i don't think i can help any further.

Is the impeller seated down all the way into the housing? Is the intake tube fully in place, or is it a bit loose?

As for the filtration... that's a lot of fish for such a small tank. That many fish will raise nitrates, etc. quickly. I'd suggest frequent large water changes. I'd say no less than 50% weekly... minimum.

I took it apart and checked everything and the impeller has no cracks or defects and the impeller pin is secure. After I put it all back together and primed it, I switched the intake tube back and forth to the highest and lowest setting and it seems to be a little quieter on the high setting. Will it quiet down over time when it gets slime built up?

Hard to say. It's not a model I've used.
