I have a 100 gal TruVu that measures 4ft x 2ft x 20". I can only fit one Penguin 330 in the back, so I need more filtration because of so many fish. Can anybody help me in choosing between the Fluval 404 & the Rena XP3? These are the largest canister filters under my $100.00 buget. Please help w/some opinions :)

Rena XP3! Basic, uncomplicated design, easy to clean.

Fluval 404 is too space age and prone to flow problems, fiddlier to clean as well.

I have both filters... the XP3 is the king. Not one thing has ever gone wrong with it, the fluval I'm constantly having to mess around with. :)

While the subject of filters is on the go ill sneak this one in,do wet/dry filters work with large fish?I was planning on getting a Eheim proffesional II wet/dry filter as i was told it would help get rid of nitrates, but a friend of mine has told that they are only any use with small fish as they would become clogged by the large waste created by bigger fish. :S

XP3! Going from a marineland's complicated hookups, to the XP3 quick disconnect its like a dream.
I have seen many people compare the xp3 to the 404 and i have never once seen one person in favor of the 404.

well now you do :p I have both filters, and though the 404 is a pig to clean at times, once running, I rarely need to touch it. It does its job fine, where as I find the XP3 more prone to unannounced clogging, and thus more regular cleaning is required. Also, I find that the way the 404 is designed allows for more effcetive use of the media. I find the XP3 cloggs form one side to the other, where as the 404 collects dirt more evenly over the media.
