Fluval 403 info

1. What is the difference between the 403 and 404.
2. I just bought one on ebay for 17 dollars. It works, sometimes. Somtimes its fine, sometimes it makes grinding noises, and sometimes it doesnt work at all. Is this just the impeller???
3. I added it to my 30 Gallon Salt water tank. This means that the tank now has 2 AC 300's and 1 Fluval 403. This should keep the water clear right???

I would pull the Fluval part and clean around the propeller, this should help with the noise. I think the 404 has a larger media try than the 403. You need something to polish your water I think. find a very fine sponge and put it in the filter.

i asked this a little while ago they both have the same output and fliowrate but they work alot differently, they will clean equally but the 404 to me looks more complicated to maintain the media and such than the 403 but it is more expensive aparently if you have to replace some parts and harder they might be harder to find, so apparently the 404 is substantially better but they both perform equally

oh and i don't know how many seperate modules there are for media but in the 03 there is three so I saaume the 04 has four
