I've had this filter for about a year now, and it's been problem free until recently, it's now blocking up about every week, I take it out and check the Impeller and it seems to work ok, I clean out all the filter media, check the nozel for blockages, put it all back together and it works perfectly, by next week it's stopped again! The impeller does work but can they wear down, so it gets harder for the impeller to suck the water through the media?

Thanks for your help.

Jason.

Its possible but unlikly for it to wear down for this to happen it would have to be turning off centre and rubbing. Make sure its not cracked or chipped and clean the hole that the impellor drops into not just the impellor a realy fine lay of slime (floc) can coat the surfaces causing resistance. Fluval internals just don't seem to brake in my experiance.

Ok, I'll try that, i've looked in the slot before and the impeller seems to slot in and out ok, but I'll check for slime.

have you ever changed any of the foam pads? as these need to be changed once in a while as they can get clogged up, but its not a good idea to change them all at once if you need to change them then change them at intervals that way you will still have benificial bacteria to help seed the other foam insert

Hi,

When i had mine running i had to change one of the sponges every 3 months and wash the sponges in tank water every water change. The impellor would get jammed all the time and i had to clean all the nooks and crannies with a cotton bud every other water change. They are a good filter when they are working properly but mine is spare at the minute waiting for the 29 gal to be set up again.
