Bought a fluval 304 for my 60 gal. about a month ago, everything was fine until just recently it's been making lots of wooshing and whirring noises periodically and expels lots of bubbles from the return hose anyone know what's going on???

honestly, my LFs has had so many people with problems with fluvals that they stopped carrying them. Apparently, if they get clogged, they redirect the water so that it bypasses the filter media without warning. If i were you, i would start looking for a cheap eheim on eBay...

it sounds like its sucking air in... check the connections on the intake.

we've been using fluval externals for 18months (2x 304 and a 404) the 404 is the only new one the 304 are both 4-5 years old.

they have never let us down ;)

It's kinda complex, I diy-ed an overflow tank so my fluval would connect to the overflow it,s connected to a durso standpipe, and it was a combination of the hole being to small at the top of the standpipe and the flexible hosing attached to the return came unfastened from my stand so it was kind of floppy and creating air pockets. whew...thanks for the help runs like a beaut!

you cant really use overflow with external filter as they will suck air in and can air lock...

why do you need overflow in particular?

Stop it! Fluvals are fine. With regular maintenance, the Fluvals wont get the chance to bypass. They have their place in the hobby. It's called budget. Mine has never let me down.
