Hi Folks

I've been flaffing about with my new filter and decided enough is enough of my bimbo antics and come to you guys for advice

The fluval 3+ filter comes with 2 polyester pads on either side of the intake section, in the middle is a thin area, where you can place another pad. It comes with a normal sponge filter pad and a carbon one.

From my understanding, carbon is not the ideal filter pad, only really for use when you want to get rid of chemicals in your water (?).

I want to go with the normal sponge pad (is that what they're called  ).

Now, seeding mature media from my stingray; I have cut about a 2" section of mature media, to place in the fluval 3+. The instructions are rubbish, that it came with, so I am playing a guessing game (instructions only came in german and arabic grrrr) here, would i be right in saying that the new sponge (that i have cut down) and the mature media, would fit inbetween the polyester sponges?

Am I being a complete ditz?

thats a good idea and one ive used before. it wont make your new filter mature instantly but will help the process out alot. if you put one normal sponge on the left compartment and the same on the right, then place the small mature bit half way up between the two :good:

could you put a nitrate sponge in the middle too? just asking coz just received a second hand 2plus for the nursery tank :D
