we got a fluval 205 yesterday and set it up today and i expected it to be more or less silent, however its a bit noisy. im not sure if it has air stuck in it and this is whats causing the noise? anyone know how to check or remove the air? or does it just get quieter as it settles

I have th 205, can you explain the noise a little, it may help

I have the 205 and it started out a little noisey too. Give it a couple of days to work out all the air inside. You can also unplug it and use the prime handle a couple more times, that might work. Also make sure that the cover for the impeler is secure on both sides, that could be rattling inside the canister. Also make sure that the cans are stacked together on the inside and not shifting around and banging the sides.

There really is not anything to these filters. If all is well when you check and you are still concerned take it back to the LFS and have them run it while you are present so you can point out the noise to them. There will be a slight hum to the filter under normal operation and the occasional gushing and/or spitting noise caused by the occasional air pocket.

we kept giving it a good shake now and then yesterday and it seems much quieter today, must have just been some air trapped inside. thanx for all the help and replies :)

I have a 305 and a 405, I have to shake both of them after the they have been opened. It's not to bad as long as you know about it. Must be a fluval thing.
