I recently bought a Fluval 205. It adds a good amount more SW to the system (im guessing around 2gal). I put charcoal in the bottom cartridge and still have 3 empty cartridges. I was think i can probably fit around 3lbs of live rock rubble. My question is..... Does the rock need a light source to thrive and also will i have to rinse the rock regularly or can i just leave it in there with no maintenance?

Dont rinse live rock! It kills a lot of microorganisms and stuff like that. Drop it in and you should be done.

No LR does not require much (if any) light to survive. The beneficial bacteria in/on LR are not photosynthetic but insted feed on nutrients! The only time you really need light on LR is for the algae or corals growing on it to flourish! ;)

It would be worthwile just quickly syphoning the chamber with the LR init every so often to stop a build up of detritus and waste!

ehn, dont bother cleaning off the LR, and no lights are necessary, although there is a light mod for canister filters if maybe you want to grow chaeto down there?
