Bought a 205 yesterday (40 gallon tank) really liked the setup, did everything per directions. Carbon in both dividers on bottom basket (rinsed first), biomass in middle and top, both rinsed.

Turned the filter on, and within about 30 mins the water looks like i dumped some milk in it. Very murky. I shrugged and let it run overnight, today no better. I went back to the store and got one of the polishing filters, put that in the top, and also got Clearmax media, and put this in the bottom (took 1 bag of carbon out). So now I have physical -> carbon -> Clearmax -> biomass -> polish

Several hours later its not clearing up. I'm not sure what else to do?

Most likely a bacterial bloom. May go away within a few days - if not then a large water change does the trick.

If the filter was brand new then it will almost certainly be an algae bloom. No amount of water changes will remove it, it will subside after a few days. Are you cycling the tank/filter?

did you get the filter new yesterday? then dont see how its algea if its 1 day old it will be the dust from the Clearmax media mine did the same but cleared very quick did you was it realy good?
