i just bought a fluval 205 external filter (used)

well i set it all up last night and seemed like it was working all ok. then i noticed it was leaking water were the lid connected to the bottom half..

i took the lid off and cleaned the seal thinking that was the fault. then i also used vaseline for lub to make it water tight.

well last night i knocked the filter off as i wanted to check it over running when im home for leaks.

but last night with the machine off i still lost about a inch off water from a 125 L tank, it still coming from the lid i think?? any ideas any1

External filters will still leak when switched off as they are syphoning water out of the tank, if the vasaline hasnt worked it sounds like you need a new seal. Did the filter prime ok when you started it up? sometimes these fluvals wont prime very well when the seal is gone.

cheers star4

i just when on the fluavl website and can not find a motor ring seal, any 1 knw for any places selling these, i just rang my local shop and nothing either, ebay goy nothing for a fluval 205..

If my memory servs me right, the seal from a 104/105 and 204/205 are all the same, I know the 304/305 stuff fits the 404/405 filters.

These people have got them listed, and it does say they all fit 104/204 etc. Hope this helps
