I just bought and installed a fluval 204 Filter in my 10 gallon, I know it is over kill but I'm hopeing to upgrade to a bigger tank come christmas. Well anyway I am very happy with it and at under 60 bucks with free shipping i couldnt pass on it. well anyway on to my question, it kicks out alittle to much current for my 10 gallon, is it ok if i run it with the valve partially closed???

Should be fine. That's why it's there, though you are right, it is massive overkill for a 10gal. the filter will be nearly as big as the tank

Another option would be to make a spray bar and make it fire into the air as this should reduce any whirlpool effect you may get.

I got the fluval 104 this week, and my current is also a bit on the strong side. I'm sure in the manual it said you can close the valve a certain amount...maybe half way. Check the manual.

I had a 204 in my 22 gal(UK), it's now in a 10gal(UK) - I've got a 404 (special offer at my LFS) in my 22 - that's overkill!!!!

I'd be interested to know what valve you mean? I thought the outflow / inflow were set!

It is the valve on the aqua stop, that attaches your hoses to the actual filter. It may be over kill but it does to a really nice job keeping the water clean. Ill try closeing the valve a bit, but ive found that just angeling the output novel into the aquarium wall works good to.
