How much can i turn it down before i stop getting good circulation?

there isnt any need to turn it down, the flow rate it says on the box isnt that what you will be getting, it will be less than 2/3 that powerful, probably half.

most species like a current to swim against, but if you want to turn it down, just adjust it bit by bit, until you feed its fine

Yeah, i was just wondering if it would effect my filtration IE: wouldn't do as good of a job...

not really, some may argue that a slower flow gives the bacteria a better connection with the water, and therefore nutrients they need to survive
