Hi guys upon advise from people on here along with my own judgement ive purchased myself a brand spanking new Fluval 105 external filter, which i got kindly delivered for 54 spondoolys :hyper:

Basically ive followed all instructions ( i think) and have it all rigged up to my 16 us gallon tank. It appears to be making quite a racket if im totally honest and curios if anyone has also expirienced this problem and could maybe point me in the right direction to solving it

along with that the tank is a fluval roma 60 and the clips that came with the 105 dont appear to fit over the edge of the tank very well, meaning i have to leave the back cover ( as its in 3 pieces) raised ever so slightly, anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks
Paul

The racket is most probably trapped air in the filter which is very common in new externals. It should clear in a few days if not there is something wrong with the filter but hopefully not :shifty:

Agree. With external cannisters you can lift the filter with both hands, angle it slightly from vertical and and give it some short but firm vibrational shakes. Forward, back, sideways... some angles will be better than others. This will help the many air bubbles in the media to hurry on up and out. Be careful though as you can easily get too much air around your impeller, stopping the flow and forcing you to re-prime the pump while hoping you don't burn out your motor.

If it was new they should come greased already. Though it's always worth mentioning that lubricating them should be part of regular maintenance, as it says in the manual :).

To quiet the filter, follow Waterdrops advice :good:. When first set up, the filter will have loads of air trapped in it. Sometimes it can take up to 48 hours for it all to get out, but it shouldn't be that noisy the whole tank. I have a Fluval 105, 305 and 405 in my bedroom and they are all essentially silent running together.

Not seeing your tank I'm not entirely sure what you mean about the clips, but often when fitting externals to aquariums you will need to cut into the hood to fit the pipes through.
