Hey just wondering if anyone around here has exprience with this? As I haven't seen it mentioned much around here. And what are your opinions of fluidized bed filter, any pros and cons, and would you recommend it to some one else? And are they good for fresh water tanks? And effects on planted tanks? And of course any DIY plans

If you do use one, make sure you provide adaquate airation. They remove everything, and I mean eevrything. Oxygen and CO2. In a planted tank, your CO2 canisters etc. won't be doing very much. I wouldn't use it with a planted tank at all. It also removes Nitrates and phosphates much like RO machines do, so your plants will have no food.

i use one they are great

if you have a heavly stoked tank you cant beat them they have a massive surface area

question do you have a planted tank and what size tank do you have and what do you consider heavyly stocked? debating if I'd like to try using one

1 x 22inch tigrinus cat
6 x 12inch wide bar tigers/dat
1 x 12inch dat cambelli

that's alot and 350 gallons wish I could but misses would serve my head on a platter for even suggesting a tank that size. So fluidized would really only work with out plants but I'd be able to overstock without worrying to much. Any one else have exprience with this type of filters? T1KARMANN how is was/is your set-up? what did you use for mechanical filteration.

FSB are amazing for their surface area:volume ratio.

The only cons are that it can take some time to tune them, and if you have a power outage the sand will settle and become mostly anaerobic, so expect a quicker die off of bacteria than in a cannister.

However, as T1 said, they are extremely good bio filters.
