Hi, I was wondering what the species of cichlids the ancestors of flowerhorns were?

Also, breeding two of the same kind(Not species since flowerhorns are hybrids) of flowerhorn produces babies identical to the parents right? No further hybrids?

Thanks:) I really like flowerhorns!

Originally, the main two genetic contributors were trimacs (Amphilophus trimaculatus) and a vieja species (probably synspilum (Vieja synspilus)).

The true genetis mix after that is pretty much surrounded in mystery and heresay !

According to Heiko Bleher the original genetics for a Flowerhorn came from a mutated Umbee.
