I have a 46 gallon bowfront tank, filtered by a Fluval 303, and am wondering what would be the proper position of the flowbar.....

I have it on the back wall, and for some time I have had it pointed straight foward, which causes a lot of current across the top of the tank, and also to the sides in the front as it deflects along the curved glass. Tonight I decided that I would try pointing it down along the rear wall, so that it doesn't have all the cross currents.

My fish seem to like it better, expecially the gouramis and the lyretail swordtail, as before they had a hard time swimming across the front of the tank without being pushed down towards the bottom.

But my question is that now there is almost no current in the tank, will this hurt the filters ability to suck up all the bad things that were stirred up with the currents?

Anyone else have the same problem? If so what directip do you put your flowbar/outlet?

Hi,

I have a 60 (US) gallon tank and a Fluval 304, I have pointed the outlet along the back wall of the tank.

The fish seem to be happy with this arrangement, I do however have to pay particular attention to the flow return end of the tank when cleaning the gravel. Obviously there is more accumulated debris  in the area with reduced current.

I have not noticed any problems caused by this arrangement, I would be interested in any other replies.

Hope this is of some help. :)

Whichever your fish are happiest. As long as the surface moves a little, it should be fine. If there's no surface movement, you will see a build up of protein, which can easily be cleaned up by skimming a papertowel across the top of the water. The protein is not harmful to the fish, just kind of unsightly.

The angle of the bar will not affect the performance of the filter, place it as is appropriate to your requirements.
