Hi all. I have a flow in my tank equivalent to 6300ltrs per hour. This is approximately 20 x tank volume per hour. I was wondering if this was a good flow rate to have?? I have taken a fancy to a Purple Tang, which i believe is a straight line swimmer. My tank is the arquadly shaped Trigon 350, probably a shape that is not best suited to Tangs? So with my flow rate, tank size and shape, can any one see a problem with going ahead with a purchase? oh and here's a piccy of how the tanks developing P1000434.JPG I need more LR for aquascaping, but you can see where it's heading.

I am unsure of the gallon conversion of that tank, but it looks something like a 90+ gallon tank? If so you could get away with one purple tang, but would shoot for something like 40x-60x turnover, it will keep the tang swimming and keep it from pacing.

15000ltrs is a lot of powerheads  But i may of had a brain wave :shifty: I could put a pond pump in the cavity under the juwel filter box. I have found a pump with an 8000ltr flow, and the benefit of a built in UV steriliser. ( £120 ) The outlet may need modifying, but it bump's my flow rate up to over 40x the tank per hour. I never considered a UV before, and this could be a great way of getting one. Anyone tried a pond pump with a UV?? Does it or could it work??

To make UV effective you have to have low flow going through it, not really worth it in my opinion. I have seen and and also maintain myself many very successful marine tanks, none of them using UV.

Usually when most people shoot for 40+ turnover they use a closed loop or a variation of a closed loop. IF you do a search you should come up with plenty of information. If you can't find enough information on closed loops I can put together some pics of my own and some links for you.

If you wanna increase the overall flow of your tank but dont wanna use a lot of powerheads have a look at theseSeio Pumps

I prefer a high flow rate myself in excess of 30 X

Do you have enought LR in the tank mate

:D

Sieo pumps seem to have the sort of output i'm looking for i.e. 1100gls per hour, on top of what i already have. It will be interesting to see the price at a UK stockist? I have 40+ kilos LR. This will rise by another 10kg in a couple of weeks!! When i ordered 40kg i thought it would fill the tank more than it does :X
