On the advice of a plant shop owner, I bought two Hydor Koralia Evolution 750 water pumps for my 75g. He said to wrap them in filter floss and put them on the back wall with the filter spraybar between them. All the water then flows to the front, down the glass and back across the sand.

{I have a Rena Filstar XP3} Problem is, when they are wrapped in a light piece, eventually it gathers alot of mulm and reduces the flow. Without them wrapped my tank becomes a whirling vortex and all of my stems uproot. I can't buy lighter powerheads right now {That is an option for this summer, if you think I should, what powerheads should I buy?}

What do I do? I have tried the spraybar on the left wall spraying toward the right and slightly rippling the water, but I couldn't figure out what to do with the powerheads and I am battling the remaining algae now from the flow issues.

Suggestions would be great. Thanks. Oh and looking at these god awful floss wrapped powerheads is not cute!

I have a powerhead that has a coarse black sponge on it. It still does some filtering, but doesn't get all clogged up with mulm. When I clean the filter I also take out the powerhead and swish it around the old tank water just like the filter media. I haven't had a problem with it. And since it's black I hardly notice it.

However, your pumps aren't designed to run with any kind of floss or sponge. They're just meant to move the water. You've already got a filter.

the floss is being used now to dampen their flow because they are so strong they blow up my plants. I need something for extra water flow so I can't just take them out. Can't buy weaker ones until the summer.

I'm going in circles :fun: I need the extra flow, but they are too powerful, can't get new ones. I think it's my positioning, but people say all the time they aim a powerhead at a trouble spot, but I can't aim these at anything. :shout:

:)

They've got a ball joint, right? You should be able to aim them anywhere you want.

:p lol I wasn't being a ditz, I meant they are too powerful to aim anywhere but at the glass. I guess this thread was silly. The answer is just to get weaker water pumps. I could kick the guy who told me to buy these.

Thanks Noah, I'll keep adjustable flow in mind when I look. I'll use these until this summer when I can buy some.
