Floss In An External

just as title really, anyone got any strong feelings one way or the other on this, only asking 'cause I'm using some to hold the rowphos in my 2215...

I've never thought of floss as biological but just wondering what everyone else thought.

well in my external i have filter wool top
then rowaphos in a bag
then activated carbon
doing great the 'floss' just catches whatever and clean water goes back into tank
my live rock does the filtration just use the external to 'polish the water '

My floss des seem to catch alot of particulate matter when I clean it out. Many suggest filters create nitrates, which they do, but with regular cleaning with tank water, your filters shouldnt become too much of a nitrate producer.
