So I have some slate floor tiles left over from my kitchen floor, I need some breeding caves for my bristlenose plecs. So if I get some aquarium silicone could I use these?

Cannot seem to open the link but it should be fine, I know chinese slate that we have in our kitchen has traces of iron showing through so they're not suitable. I have used standard floor and roof slate for building caves and it works great.

ok i just rang the father and he seems to think they are ceramic effect slate tiles. will these still be fine?

Are you sure it was ceramic effect or slate effect ceramic tiles? Either way I wouldn't bother. Just go to your local tile shop and ask for a sample :good:

I wouldn't use them, whilst they're ceramic the back of the tile is never glazed with anything. Get a sample, if your like me you'll send your partner in for a sample too.

i already have some. they look fine really and most pots people use are a ceramic of some sort aint they. where can i get some suitable slate that people use then?

after looking at the tile closely i decided not to bother. i got the size cave i needed by sawing a plant pot in half. two nice sized caves and are closed at the back so im sure male will feel more secure in them. thanks for all the advice fellas
