Flooding Collection Cup And Floor

Hi guys, ive just been out and brought a v2 300 skimmer... ive primed it and upon turning it on it just overflows completely, this skimmer has a little knob which is supposed to be adjusted according to the water level in the skimmer body, however, with it completely open, or not there(so no flow is being restricted) it still floods..

is this because of the height of the skimmer in relation to the tank water level?


i'd be grateful if anyone can lend a hand!

i wasnt taking into account the air valve being shut, as when its open the level drops! and, probably even more stupid, i didnt have the collection cup on lol,
