Yes I guess it's because the gas has been already saturated in the water when u filled up the jug if u found bubbles on the sides. So it'll got worse when the water's heated up (when the gas carrying capacity decrease). If there's not enough aeration to allow the gas to equilibrate, the gas will get supersaturated in the water.
My betta healed up very well after several days of turning the airpump to full.
And I monitor the water parameters during that time to prevent him to getting more stress.
In the future, you can either put an airtube to aerate the water while in the jug overnight, or ideally, warm the water (eg. put it beside heater, or what I do is to add boiled water from kettle together with tap water to get to the tank temperature) before putting in the tank.

Oh in case his condition is worrying (like sitting on substrate, not eating, just look sad etc), you might want to do a water change but just remember to put warm water in this time
