my betta has somehow aquired what seems to be an air bubble in one of his fins. I've never seen anything like it one of the forward fins seems to float along beside him instead of draping below...

Does anyone have any idea what i can do?
Will this go away, is this some sort of know disorder, or am i seeing things?

Did u do a water change recently?

I came across a similar situation before, follow this LINK to see if it's the same thing that u see in ur betta.

If unfortunately it is, try to increase the aerate or agitate he water to drive off excess gas.

Good luck! :flowers:

Feline you are so correct.....I have done a water change recently....what has done this I leave my water 24 hrs in blue water jugs, I have however noticed quite a few bubbles clinging to the sides. Is this an indicator of too much gasses disolved in the water to begin with or does the excess gas become suspended after warming in the aquarium.....

thanks for any input......

Hi Sleschwin,

Yes I guess it's because the gas has been already saturated in the water when u filled up the jug if u found bubbles on the sides. So it'll got worse when the water's heated up (when the gas carrying capacity decrease). If there's not enough aeration to allow the gas to equilibrate, the gas will get supersaturated in the water.

My betta healed up very well after several days of turning the airpump to full. :D And I monitor the water parameters during that time to prevent him to getting more stress.

In the future, you can either put an airtube to aerate the water while in the jug overnight, or ideally, warm the water (eg. put it beside heater, or what I do is to add boiled water from kettle together with tap water to get to the tank temperature) before putting in the tank.

Hope ur betta will recover real soon! :D :flowers:

Oh in case his condition is worrying (like sitting on substrate, not eating, just look sad etc), you might want to do a water change but just remember to put warm water in this time :)

HTH, take care!
