Hey,
I have a 5 year old 20 gallon tank and am having problems with the light.
It keeps flickering on and off. I have replaced the fluorescent starter (capacitor) and the bulb and the light worked for about an hour and then started again. Is it getting overheated? I would rather not replace the whole thing, but fear that is what it will take.
Any suggestions?

Some new globes will pulse, (send waves of light moving along the globe) a little bit for the first day or so but should settle down after that. If it doesn't then the globe could be faulty and should be changed. See how it goes and if there is no improvement tomorrow then take the globe back and get it checked by the place you bought it from.
The other option is lose wiring. Maybe one of the wires in the light unit has slightly detached and is causing a slight break in the power.
It could also be a faulty starter.
