Hi All,

I was at a lfs this morning and they had some Flat fish for sale.

There were 2 people at the reception desk when I went to go and ask about them. One said they get up to 2ft and the other person said they are a lot smaller.

Apparently they were imported from Indonesia. And I was told they are definately fresh water, not brackish, but I am doubtful.

Can anyone confirm what this is and what it's exact requirements are.
Thanks

Edit. I don't seem to be able to add a photo. Has this function been removed?

type of Asian Sole maybe?

For pics you need to upload via imageshack or photobucket

Retailers cannot even identify these fish to species level, so I certainly wouldn't trust them on whether freshwater, brackish or marine! The only real freshwater species from Asia that is regularly traded is Brachirus harmandi, and this species has characteristic blotches on its underside. The others are mostly brackish or sometimes brackish/marine fish. I would keep all at SG 1.003 by default, until such time I was confident to the identity of the flatfish. Keeping a freshwater species at SG 1.003 will do no harm at all.

Neale,

Thanks for the info.

I don't think this fish is going to fit in with my set up. So I am going to leave it for the mean time.
