Hello, i have 6 cory trilineatus, had them 3 weeks, the tank is 3ft 20ukg. (36 x 12 x 12)

Water tests:

ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate 10
ph 7.4

other fish in tank - 9 neon tetra, 2 otos.

overfiltered.

twice weekly water changes - about 35% per week.

Anyway, ive noticed basically since i got the corys that a few of them have been flashing, scraping themsleves on the gravel / rocks. (gravel is smooth fine gravelnot sharp)

This has been going on for at least 2 weeks now.

There are no visible signs of any infection / ich. The fish are behaving normally apart from this, eating fine etc. Also they arnt doing it all the time, its just every now and again. the other fish in the tanks seem fine, neons arnt flashing at all.

Ths is the first time i have kept cories, whats the best plan of attack??? salt bath???????

I am not the expert of Corys however I think you might not need to worryabout the condition of your Corys. Like I said you might not.
Ok I have these group of Sterbais, 6 of them in the tank with some Tetras and Hatchetfish. I bought them young in last November and try to grow them out. I have them in the tank with sands. And I see them scraping the ground with their body. Sort of quick body twisting move. I don't know exactly why they do but it seems they do it when they are excited or try to get the other's attention or maybe try to find the bits of fallen food in the substrain.
Anyhow, they seem do it more often after I feed or changed water. That is why I suspect it might be the expression of excitement. Also I see the biggest female(she is almost sexually matured and try to get the attention from the males who are not matured yet) do it in near the smaller male(s).

I know I never had any out break of ick in the tank. So my point is I bought 6 of them and there are still 6 of them living happily. And they seems to do the "flashing" motion now and then. So I think you probably do not need to worry.

Like you mentioned, your other tankmate have no symptom of illness. And your water parameter seems ok. But if you still worry about them, just keep close eyes on them but I wouldn't put any medication since I suspect there are no parasite. Not to mention, it usually Corys are the last one to catch ick/parasite. I would worry if the other tankmate start to flash or start show some unusual behaviour, then I would consider the medication.

But until then, I don't think you have nothing to worry about.

ill keep an eye on them, thanks for the replies.

Anyone else have a similar thing happening with their cories???????

it does seem to happen more when they are fed. Ive done a water change today (15%) and they are doing it more often at the mo.

bump!

really would appreciate some other opinions guys.

thanks.
