well if you need to add another male to the existing tank with the other 2 just to see if they are females or males then i suggest you need to do some severe research on bettas, b/c if you cant tell the difference in that pic then you aint got a clue, yes i do mean to be blunt, -_- some one has to tell you.

not a good idea putting them in together i think even if they do not fight id of thought it would at least stress them out

Are you sure they're not fighting? The male with the darker fins has a shredded tail, and he's not a DT either. That's fin damage from an attack from another fish, either the other betta or a community fish that isn't compatible with slow-moving fish like bettas.

i second this, you can't possibly watch them 24 hours a day, and just because you don't see it happening doesn't mean its not happening (if a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it fall, does it make a sound? of course it bloody does!) and even if the aggression is minimal now doesn't mean it will stay that way, loads of people have reported keeping males and females together and them being "fine" (despite pictures showing fin damage) and then come on here one day and said well s/he killed him/her. how much worse do you think its likely to be with males! you are playing a dangerous game and putting your fish's lives in danger. sorry to be blunt but thats the way i see it!

There's always one member of a forum who thinks, "I know better than everybody else"

As already stated, You can NOT watch them every second. Do you know how quick a near fatal attack can be? Its irresponsible and a bad example to newbies who join the forum.

the advice for this member started off sensible, now its just abusive. which is not pleasant at all is it?

its not a bright idea to put two males together, let alone three, I think you know this and am just trying to get a rise out of people.

if you really dont know any better, I am terriabley sorry to hear about your fishes deaths in advance, because that is what WILL HAPPEN IF YOU PUT THEM TOGETHER-THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER.

Years back when i first started the hobby i got some bettas, it was 2 males and a female.
I put them all in a tank together with guppies and mollies and platys, they all was happy together.
I had done no reading on them and my lfs gave me no advice on them, they satyed happy for about 3 months then suddenly one of the males turned and killed the other 2 bettas and wasted half my livebearers.
Lesson learnt and i did my research.

I have to agree with you. Some people aren't born knowing everything about Bettas. And some people just don't know any better. That's no reason to treat them like an idiot

I find it hard to believe that some of you started out knowing everything. It'd be nice to politely inform someone of their mistakes instead of attacking them. I know, I've been on the recieving end from a few on more than one occasion on this board.
