My shrimps a spend of lot time floating around underneath the frogbit leaves really and seem to enjoy it up there , if ever i want to see a shrimp i look at the floating plants there is always a large group of them underneath sat them the leaves of the frogbit

they seem to like nibbling the roots of the frogbit but dont seem to do any damage at all

they to enjoy swimming up to the tank top of the tank and i see lots of them doing it all day it gives me a chance to see how of many berried or saddled females i have cos you can see them really close up and they dont seem to mind looking you at them

So my tip would be get some floating plants for your shrimp

i never knew they liked them never and was never told by anyone that they would enjoy the floaters , i got the floaters for my fry to hide in ;)

Thanks Sarah xx

p.s - this has nothing to fact do with selling i am amazon frogbit just passing experience in)
(sorry if a bit muddled maybe if it is maybe a mod edit can round it the right way my MS HEAD is reading all it fine )

If you don't have much surface agitation, then there may be some microscopic food on the surface to attract the shrimp, and the floating plants provide an anchor to allow the shrimp to stay up there and feed. Could this be the scenario? If so, then it's not just floating plants you need, but also a relatively still surface.
here's a couple of mine using a snail as an anchor to feed off the surface:

Wow cool picture!

Yeah Pip, I think you've got me sold on shrimp AND floating plants :) Can't wait to get back to school to start working on that.

i have quite a lot of surface movement 0- the flating plants are always moving around the tank

I've got floating pennywort in my tanks. The shrimps do really seem to like hanging out on it. A lot of my shrimps will feed from the surface too.

mine will hand feed live bloodworms with tweezers
and surface feed flake (with filters off)

it's great when they do this instead of just running around the bottom of the tank feeding

The roots of floating plants have a fairly high surface area for bacteria to live on, so I presume that's what the shrimps will be feedingon :).

I just got a whole load of Salvinia for my shrimp, but every time I add they got nuts and start behaving ill. Must take ages to soak copper out of the plants, I've had them in another tank for two days  .

You might even be dissapointed after that cos my shrimps eat salvinia

Curses. I've put the stuff in my other tanks for now.
I have tonnes of frogbit, but am bored of it. If the Salvinia doesn't work out...which it probably wont, I'll try find something different. There may be some Azolla left in the pond come spring.
