today, i went insane. almost all the water was drained from the tank and the sludge was sucked up, i was amazed my ammonia readings were zero with the amount of goo the siphon inhaled. i did, of course, keep the gravel and filter media and tank walls as wet as possibly during the whole thing to preserve bacteria.

i decided against changing gravel and just added some new, pure white gravel to my mix of light gravel. i nipped off the slime-covered vallisnera and added the new buds in, cleaned the heater and filter up, and buried my piece of PVC pipe. the Kuhliis love it!

but, while i do like my Platties, i think i'd like to trade them in at my LPS for another fish, a fast, colorful, active fish. i was thinkign Tiger Barbs, since i've always bugged my dad to let me get some. now i have a tank, and i can get ahold of the Barbs, so d'you think i could? remember; the Platties would not be there, only the Barbs and Kuhliis. a tiger-themed tank!

Sadly, I'd have to say not, Betta Boyz. Tiger barbs are very active fish and they need more space for swimming than a ten gallon can provide. It's not a matter of their size, it's a matter of their need for open water. They would look good with kuhlis, though.
