I have been away from this forum for quite a while and one of the topics running before my absence was a few people trying to work out a way of fitting an external filter to an Aqua One tank. The problem with fitting one is in getting the inlet and outlet piping in through the back of the tank (through the hood I would have thought) with it having a built in filter in the tank hood. I have had a browse of the forum and can't find if anyone succeeded. I have had an idea on how to do this and have been contemplating have a crack at it but am worried about cracking the plastic (best drill bit to use or if there is a better method for cutting this hard plastic) and where the best place to have the pipe entering is. I think it may be possible to have the pipes entering at the back left hand side where the water re-enters the tank as there is a small compartment at the back separated from where the water flows back in. Can anyone let me know if this has been achieved and if so where I can find the thread?

if you don't mind dumping the original filter then you can just use a fine tooth hacksaw blade to cut through the plastic hood. It shouldn't be hard once you remove the original filter. You can use the sponges and noodles out of it to go in the canister filter.

I've done this with a drill bit on my Aqua one RS150 (370 l)
I'll take some photos and describe how i have managed to do it tomorrow. Much as you thought the easiest place is the left hand side in the separate little compartment.
