my friend recently left our hometown to go back to school in eastern washington, and he decided he wanted me to take care of his fish while he was gone.

Unfortunately, i can't get pictures yet. i dont have the necessary hardware to transfer pictures from my camera onto my computer, but i can get them before too long

He left me 3 skirt tetras, 4 clown loaches (all quite small), 1 neon tetra, 4 unkown orangy fish (same size and shape as the neon) and one red fish (also same size and shape as the neon), and one betta. THESE WERE ALL IN A SINGLE TEN GALLON TANK!

i relocated the 4 loaches and 2 of the orangy fish into my 45 gallon, and i relocated the 3 skirt tetras into my 15 gallon

but, i left the betta with the neon tetra and three of those other unknown fish in the 10-gallon

I'm not a fish expert, but I'm pretty sure the unkown fish must be some kind of tetra (or if not, some fairly similar fish). I also think the betta might be a female, since its nonaggressive and has relatively modest fins, though still has vibrant colors.

Unless someone knows exactly what kind of fish i have, I'd love some links to compare what my fish look like to what they might be, and to help me decide if my betta is a male or female

thanks :)

i would move the neons and unknown tetras away from the betta, no matter what sex it is tetras are fin nippers

as for the unknown fish could they be cherry barbs? only reason asking is males are red females orange :good:

if not any specific marks that might help ID them

youre right, they are indeed cherry barbs. I kept looking up rosy barbs and lots of other kinds and couldnt find one that matched

thank you

and i'll consider moving the tetras, but honestly i've noticed his fins have recovered dramatically since removing the clown loaches. so im not too worried about him anymore (and he is a male)
