I've just picked up a brochure in my LFS for "Bactinetts" from Soll Laboratories, which is some kind of capsule of bacteria that you place into your filter and it already contains bacteria for breaking down Ammonia, Nitrites and Nitrates.

They claim that if it's used in a new tank's filter there's no need to cycle, because the Bactinets provide the bacteria in your filter to break down the Ammonia and Nitites without you having to wait for them to develop.

Has anybody else come across these, and if so, do they work?? Their website is at http://www.bactinetts.com (only in German at the moment!)

Needlerp,

I've used them in the past and the APPEAR to work - had no problems with ammonia or nitrite in any of the tanks. However I cannot say that it was definitely down to the Bactinetts. I was recommended them by Manor Aquatics and the boss there said he had used them as emergency measures in tanks and they had quickly reduced the problems - but then he was trying to sell them to me at the time :)

Cheers, Eddie
