Fishkeepers Anxiety!

the tanks don't have a filter,
or if they are heavily stocked,
The tank have filter but they were “made in china” I don’t trust them.

It is heavily stocked too! Remember about my silver dollar tank?

An easy way to see if you are doing enough water changes is to monitor the nitrate levels.

If the nitrate goes up 10-20ppm in a week, then a 75% water change once a week is probably sufficient.

If the nitrate goes up 50+ppm in a week,
then either do water changes more frequently,
or reduce the number of fish in the tank,
or reduce the food going into the tank,
or grow more plants in the tank.

Hey everyone, I wanted to discuss another topic which is quite common in the hobby.. Anxiety.
Mine is that bad that every night before I go to sleep I'll quickly run down the stairs to check if all my fish are alright ?
Alot of the time I always wonder if my fish are happy and healthy or not and if they are growing properly haha!
The worst is with new fish and if they are going to survive and be a great addition to the tank or terrorize it even if you have researched the fish to death it sometimes happens! And the worst.. when the fish die and you blame it on yourself and are terrified for the others! Maybe I'm too attached to my fish but either I couldn't lose any of my fish without shedding tear, maybe I'm just soft haha :)
Here's some random pics of my fish.
I know exactly what you mean! I think I spend more time looking for signs of sickness rather than just enjoying them!

Literally Im the same ??, my big severum still has a torn fin from the store and every single day I sit there panicking it’s gonna rip more and just staring at him for ages when he’s probably thinking “why won’t he just leave me alone” haha.

I guess it's normal when you are new to this hobby.
After you have gained more experience, you can be more relax and not to worry too much.

But it's important to learn some useful/important tips when you are new by reading as much as possible from reliable sources.
This will reduce your problems and probably your stress.

Also, don't start with expensive fish.
This will give you more stress if they die.
Start with cheaper fish before you progress to the more expensive fish.

Enjoy your hobby...

That’s very understandable to be honest.. I just get way too attached to my fish and I also am actually diagnosed with anxiety to make everything even better haha..

I totally relate to your anxiety, I have the same with my two tanks. I think of them as aquatic beings, not just fish.
I feel very responsible for my water babies.
I try to manage my anxiety by having an aquatic diary, where I log all the maintenance and water quality and fish condition , even their behaviours.
It has helped me feel a bit more in control of their well being. I am an artist so even do little sketches of them, this graphic and written documentation is very helpful for me.
Being soft is a very admirable quality, it is actually a strength, and if your fish could speak I am sure they would thank you for all the care and consideration you give them.
Have a great day!

Aww thank you very much! I completely understand you and I wish I could draw as I’d be sketching my fish for hours haha! I believe it does help in a lot of ways and I think they are all just happy to see we all care! I sometimes think I am too soft as well I just watch every little detail with a lot of care and get upset quite easily haha ? I hope you have a great day too!
