Hi all,

A sad, sad day :-( i had to help one of my neons today, he had been sat at the bottom of the tank looking very bad, i tried to leave him as long as i could (couldnt face letting him go) but then after 3 days i couldnt let the little guy suffer any more.

Its the first time i have ever had to do anything like this and i dont want to do it again, it really upset me.

Bye bye little neon :byebye:

sorry to hear about your fish :( i dont know how you did the awful deed....... but did you know that the most humane way to euthanase your fish if you have to, is by using pure clove oil (find at a pharmacists shop) dissolved in some tank water? if you havent heard of it try typing 'fish euthanasia' in google or i can give you more accurate info on how much & what to do. ive had to do it myself & although i found it v hard the clove oil basically acts like an overdose of general anaesthetic & the fish go very peacefully. theres also a sticky post on euthanasia in the tropical fish emergencies section of this forum which is worth a read.
hope all your other neons are ok.

I so sorry to hear about your fish. My b/f normaly does mine, and as a breeder we do alot of mass culls, so I kinda got use to it now.

To be honest I don't think it matters how it is done a long as it is quick, and as painless as posible. I know this sounds Crawl, but mine are hit by a brick. But as I always say it QUICK.

((hugs))

youre overstocked on the fish and you will need to do lots of water changes to avoid further deaths. do you have any test kits, if so can you post the results?

how long has your tank been running?

Hi all,

I have had my tank set up for a year and a half, it is over stocked at the moment but only until my new 60g tank has finished cycling.

The water is fine and the other fish are doing well. This little neon was the first in the tank a year and a half ago, so i think it was his time to go.

Why are you cycling a new tank?
why not clone the existing one?

I have only been fish keeping for a year and a half so am still pretty new to all of this. When i got my first aquarium i didnt cycle the tank because i didnt know i was meant to. I want to do things properly with my new tank so the fish get the best possible living space. Why? is there a better way to do things?
