Sooo today i had a visitor move into one of my unoccupied tanks for a little bit. A young lad has been having trouble with this dwarf gourami, it is ill with what appears to be fungus, he is worried and approached me on FB to ask if i could help. So the lad dropped the fish here this arvo, and it currently in a small tank with some salt and medication.

Told the lad i would do all i can for his fish, fingers crossed

I can see me turning into a fish hospital at this rate lol

Good for you taking on sombody elses fish to try and cure it. Hopefully it came sick when the young fella got the fish and not ill from anything he did.

Best of luck and keep us posted on the fishes progress.

That is indeed very generous of you to take in this DG, hope it pulls through and hopefully you'll give some good news for the young lad in time to come.

Good luck.

I dont think it was anything he did, but i will get him to bring a water sample with him, for me to test, when he comes to pick the fish up (i think it will recover, it is swimming around and interested in food, a good sign)

I couldnt not take it, i had a spare tank, filter and heater here. It would have died otherwise. I couldnt cope with that thought, and the lad was quite upset and travelled a fair distance to bring it to me, to me that shows he too cares about the fish, so i'll do the best i can.

I personally never treat fish with both salt and meds at the same time. Both are stressful to fw fish. Try one and it doesn't do the job, then try the other. Which one to try first often depends on the specific fish involved as some do better with salt than others. It also depends on the severity of what is being treated. I am assuming here that salt is the proper treatment for whatever the problem is.

The fish is doing fine in both salt and meds....he is being treated properly

It is a refreshing change to see people willing to do all they can to treat the fish. Good on the lad.

Just gave the little Dude some live cherry shrimp, he be like Jaws, all that was missing was the music lol

You should try giving it some mozzie wrigglers too, I haven't found a fish yet that wont go mad for them.

Dude is healing up fairly nicely it seems....will do a small water change today to drop salt levels a bit and obviously to keep water in good knick as this tank is not in the least cycled.

Pretty good prognosis me thinks!

Dude will be heading home very soon. all healed up now. I have started the water swap back to fully fresh and unmedicated water, once completed his time here will be over

Congrats on a good deed and good outcome
