Today we had a tour round some shops and our friend took a water sample that we had tested @ a few different LFS's
First were pets @ home. They used the API Test Kit and the results were
0 ppm, 0 ppm, 10 - 20 ppm for Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate respectively which sounds perfectly fine, problem is I think she might have got the amount of drops wrong on some of the tests so not sure if results are 100% accurate.
Next shop was World of Water. They also used the API test kit and got the same results as the previous LFS. They did seem to use the right amount of drops as far as I could tell so that was perfectly fine too.
Last LFS was Aquajardin. They use tetra tests and the scale was slightly different, numbers and colours.
This time they got 0, 0, 20 - 50? (not sure) on Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate respectively. The colour of the Nitrats seemed about the same as the previous tests done on API kits until she put in a powder or somethin with a lil spoon and it went darker and said the level was about 40 ppm which I thought were fine and then she said she needs to do 20% water changes every few days for a couple of weeks to bring the levels down. She also said @ home she has the API kit herself, but the tetra is a bit more accurate.
I aint familiar with the tetra test kit apart from the strips I bought originally and this was definately liquid tests. So what did she put in the nitrate test? It seems strange to me.
Cheers
