Hey,

I have a 10 gallon tank in a office environment. In a week i lose about a 1/3 of the water. No leaks. Just get calcium buildup on the tank. Tank does not get any light from an outside source, just flouresent lighting. I can't put fish back into the tank until i resolve this issue. I have a Biowheel setup. I keep the room at 70F, so i don't know what's going on..anybody help? Went to Pecto, and the guy looked at me stupid.

Thanks

Jeff

One of my tanks loses water really fast and i'm unsure as to why. My apartment is really dry though. 1/3 is a lot of water to lose in only one week. Check to see if the filter is against the wall. If it's too snug and leaning the wrong way water could be leaking over the top down the back wall where you can't see it. Another idea my be the airstone if you have one. If you turn it off it can work as a siphon if your not careful. i've had bad accidents with that!

I have a 5 gallon tank that seems to have more evaporation than my three 10 gallon ones. Maybe it is just that it is more noticable in the smaller tank.

Do you have open areas on the top of the tank?
I'm assuming you have it covered, right?
Glass on the top of the tank will help with the condensation dripping back down into the tank and hold some of the water in.

How do you have it covered?
Is there a heater in it?

your airstone in a partially open tank is the problem...had that happen to me....too much air turns the water into moist air which turns to buildup around your lights....thats exactly what happened.. when you guys figure out a remedy let me know....I highlt doubt you want to hook up a fluval system on a 10 gal....lol thats like putting NOS on a go cart...rofl (fish jacuzzi)
