Fish stores

Now i know about this and the garantee, but fish are not really allowed to turn away fish, no matter where they come from, and how old they are, for it is Illegal for fish, not from that countries orgin to be set free into the wild, and it is not right to kill unwanted fish, i wish to get rid of my Chinese Algea eater, because my airpump broke and i had to put my CAE into a small net in the main tank, just to keep him alive, but every morning i have woken up so far, he has got out of the net (I put things over the opening of the net to stop this but did not work) and he is VERY aggressive towards my fish and i fear for their lives, do you think this is right that when i phone my local store, Pet At Home asking if i can return him for this reason and them to say plain no! i tried getting in contact with another place which i do believe will take him, but they dont answer their phone to settle my query, i am starting to get really annoyed at these pet stores, and i wish not to lose my fish that i have due to the cause of one fish!!!

What are your opinions?

unfortunatly the law is on the side of the retailer in this case
there is nothing wrong with th fishes health and it dose the job that you
purchased it for. IE if they sold you an "alge eater" that turned out not to be one then you could take it back for a refund or exchange. as this is not the case then you are lumbered with it.

Sorry but have you considered buying another tank?
Failing that can you get it to Tonbridge Kent, as I will gladly take it off your hands.

at my lfs we get to sell our fish there but we dont get money we get credit for fish but we get half the price theyre sold for.

is there a filter in it?

If so you wont need air...

None of my tanks have air pumps on them. He'll be fine if you've got a filter.

how long have you had the air pump. maybe you can take that back. i think that is the same tank i bought my sister and it has a ugf. is that correct?

i don't c the point of an air pump u mist have a filter in ur tank. the surface current will be enough to oxygenate the water.

No offence but that is really beginning to annoy me people keep saying that, i thought it was the owners choice to buy a pump or not, so no offence to anyone, but please do stop telling me this, i do get the picture, and so all facts are CLEAR... I have a small filter, in fact too small for the tank it is in, but i calculated it, so using the heater, air pump's bubbles and the fliter, to maximise Heat, filtration and oxygenation of the WHOLE tank, and it works perfectly, the filter is waged halfway down the tank, which is not touching the bottom, however is about 3 inches from the surface, is which case, does not break the surface and has no contact with oxygen... Until i get a bigger filter, i have to use my brain to get my tank filtered and all that...

The tank has not got a filter in it, the one i am talking about (The hex shaped tank in my sig) so i use the plants and ornaments the collect the waste from the flow of air bubbles and then remove them from the tank, another thought i came up with...

I have managed to give the Chinese Algea eater a home now, i went to my nextdoor neighbour and she told me about this friend she has called rob, who works at my local fish store, and she rung his private number and i spoke to him explaining my situation, and he said to bring it to the store and he would take him off my hand (By the way he is the manager of the store) so in the end the store stuck with me, and as for the law being on the retailers side, sorry to disagree with you, but they aint, it is law not to release it into the wild, and also it is illegal to not inform a customer of product description, because when i bought the CAE, Pets At Home did not tell me anything about the chinese algea eater, and they new i was totally new to this, and so did not inform me of its aggressive nature, and so i thought i had a good fish until i came online, to this forum and found out...

But what is done is done, and he is at a happy home now insted of being alone in a tank, now i am setting up that Hex tank to raise my fry in it, but i am running into a few problems...

It is at the discretion of the lfs whether or not to let you return an unwanted fish. At the one I work at if we have tank space we will take the fish.

It must be frustrating but you have to put yourself in the LFS's shoes. If a store accepted unwanted fish that's all they would have! So many people win goldfish at a carnival and put them in a bowl, then they get huge and won't die and they don't want the fish. Or people want to change from tropical community to semi agressive or cichlid but don't want to wait for their fish to die. Plus, fish from customers might have diseases that will spread to the store's fish. So you could get a new air pump, another tank, or try to give it away. Good luck.
