My damsels and cleaner shrimp seem to like to stick to one area of the tank and hardly come out .

They have been in the tank well over 3-4 weeks now and I have changed all the landscaping in the tank to get them out more, but oh no they just stick to this one corner like always . They seem to have this one big bit of favourite rock in the tank, god knows why. :dunno: .

The cleaner shrimp has even started hanging out there was well but there is a reason to this i think, as he/she has just lost their shell for a new one last night. So i assume hiding there for protection till new one gets harder etc.

The water is fine i have tested it all and everything is coming back at:

Ammonia - 0
Nitrite (NO2)- 0
Nitrate(NO3)- 0.5-10ppm

I have around 25-30kgs of live rock, a Fluval canister with a water return (thingy), and also a SunSun 3000lph powerhead.

It almost seems like i have a empty tank at the moment as its so empty with them hiding all the time. I plan on taking the Damsels back as they keep fighting :grr: :grr:. Then swapping for a pair of Clowns and a Yellow Tang :D .

But can anyone tell me why they seem to love this one corner as for the life of me I cant seem to work it out :| . I really would to have fish that come out and swim around the tank, hence the reason for me going to marine. To have all lovely bright :fish: to look at.

:thanks:

You have answered your own question about the damsels - although damsels do like to 'host' one area. I suspect they hiding as they don't want a fight!!

The shrimps also tend to stay in one area

Its a good plan to to take them back and get two juvie clowns, it is fasinating watching one become female and them becoming friends (they will also host an area or even the powerheads )

When choosing fish you want something for every area, so a dither fish - one that swims in the open (which the clowns will do sometimes) but expect you will need something else. something for the bottom, maybe a goby or blennie - although of course always stay under your stocking level until you are more experienced, that way you lose less fish :good:

Now the next question, I can't remember the size of your tank - is it large enough for a tang?

The tank size is 125 Litres. I was told that i could have a yellow tang as long as i did the tank upgrade in March (Birthday present from Parents & Partner) will be a 350 litre plus tank. I wouldn't even think of a yellow tang unless i was sure this would happen. with the upgrade.

The damsel are hiding and sharing the same part of the rock which if they didn't want a fight wouldn't make sense. The blue devil as already had ago at the Humbug at his fins , yet they still want to share the same section of tank and rock.

I plan to stay under the stocking levels at all times due to the fact i don't like a crowed tank, but that's my own choice. With Gobys/blennies I do like the Diamond Gobys but it's just finding one in stock at LFS.

Oh yes, forgot about that - that will be great

damsels are a bit emmmm 'thick', out of sight out of mind - as long as they can't see each other they could be within a cm :fun:
