Hello everyone.

I am hoping someone can help me with this problem I have.

I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 platys.
One of the fish, has a white cotten like substance on the top part of the mouth and also a dot of it on the lung area. I am thinking that is fungus. But, when she swims, she seems to be flipping kinda. This is hard to explain, but she seems edgie like she has an itch or something. I have seen her stay in the stream of bubbles from the airstone twice already, like it was some kind of relief. I didn't think that fungus affected the fish internally, not sure though, so I thought maybe she has something else besides fungus. Can someone suggest anything I can buy to put in the water. The other fish in the tank is uneffected as of yet. I don't have a hospital tank unfortunately.

EDITED TO SAY: I just put aquarium salt in the water and I have some melifix (not sure the spelling) in there too. I have the feeling that won't help much. Since the last time I had a problem similiar (last year) the fish died. I am hoping this won't happen again in this case.

If someone can give me advice or thoughts on what I should do, I would greatly appreciate it.

thank you!!

I have about one treatment left of melafix.

I am going tonight to get something to put in the tank. I don't want to wait too long because of my last experience.

Hoping to get advice before then. :/

Just had the same problem and Formalin with great success. Clears the fungus within three days. The melafix works well with Formalin. Good luck and by the way, I found it worked better with the lights off.

Sounds to me like you have fungus and ich. Fish present ich in different ways. Some get the obvious white dots while others get it internally. They scratch themselves on aquarium decorations, or stay under the filters or airstones. I have always had good luck with Rid Ich + by Kordon. It is a cross between formaline and malachite green. It fixes most parasitic and fungal problems you have and works fast. Also it is safe for scaleless fish.
