I've got a 55 gallon tank that used to be home to my turtles when they were tiny. I'm currently getting it ready to use as a fish tank. I have a ten gal tank and am familiar with the basic care of fish. My question is, what fish do you all suggest for the 55 gal? The tank is deep rather than long: it's about 30x18x24 (that's an estimate--can't find a ruler). I'd like a nice mix of fish but don't trust myself to not overstock it. I'm not interested in any overly agressive fish.

Hi! If I were you, I'd stock it with carnivores and such, but, they're a little tough to take care of. Since you would like to have a nice mix, and you know basic care, I'd reccomend large species of angelfish. They're very colorful and fun to watch. I would also put some colorful tetras in there. You have a lot of room and the it's really up to you on what you want to put in it. I'd edfinately put larger fish in there though, but whatever floats your boat! :D

I'm only a newbie here but i heard that Angels and tetra don't mix well as Tetras are eaten by Angels?

Maybe worth asking someone with experience of the two fish just to clarify the situation as the last thing you want to do is stock a tank with Angels and lots of food

That can be true. But I'm talking about tetras who will school, like black tetras. I keep a couple of them and they swim around in a group. The angels will ignore the large group, plus they can fit a 2 inch tetra in their mouth. I have a freind who has had a great tank with a combo of angels and schooling tetras. :sly:

Hmm.... I would go for 3 angels, a nice school of 6 cories and a Boesmani rainbow for a dash of color. Maybe even a gold nugget pleco to help clean up.
