I have a 40 liter tank and the water temperature is usually between 24-28°C. The water hardness is 50 FR. I want to keep only one sex of fish to avoid breeding. Can you suggest a peaceful species that can live in these conditions?

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

Which part of the water hardness is the 50FR for?
What is 50FR in ppm?

Ideally we would like the carbonate hardness (KH), general hardness (GH) and the pH of the water.

Dimensions of the tank: Length 43, Width 28, Height 34. Hardness of 50 FR mains water. PH of the water is 7.2. I don't know about the other questions.

It's the hardness that is confusing us. What is the unit "FR"? I know there are several units for hardness but I do not recognise FR.

@emeraldking Do you know what 50 FR means for hardness?

The French unit I am referring to is abbreviated as F, FH or FR. 1 fh° = 10 ppm

Thank you, that helps a lot :)

If 1 FR = 10 ppm that means your 50 FR = 500 ppm and 28 dH which is extremely hard. To be honest I'm not sure which fish can live in such hard water. Hopefully members who have hard water will be able to suggest fish which can live in very hard water.

Yes, I am aware of that too, but I have been keeping 1 goldfish, 5 cory catfish and a bushymouth catfish in this water for about 3 years. I have not encountered any visible problems so far.

Wow that's really hard water. If you still have the cories and catfish consider using RO water because the minerals will build up in their organs and shorten their lives.
There are a couple of suitable hard water fish in this thread but most need a bigger tank than 40l:

Thank you for help. :)

How are the cats are doing ?

I mean... Your experience concurs with mine... They don't really care about any hardness levels to live.

As I said, there is no apparent problem. But I will take the comments into consideration.

The chart is confusing. Going across the chart, one side it says 1FH = 0.1ppm but going down it says 1FH = 10ppm

When I did 50 x 1.785 (the dGH number) it came up with 89.25ppm

I'm confused
