Firstly hi. I'm new to thw forum and this is my first post. Just filled my new Fish R Fun 53L tank for the first time this afternoon. The instructions said fill half way up the filter pump to cover the impeller adequately. I've done this but the water level seems a bit low and there's a gap of over an inch between the water and the bottom of the cover which overhangs the glass. I've got a bit more room to play with but my question is, how waterproof are the pumps on these setups? To fill without a gap showing (water level at top of glass and hidden by the cover) would bring the water level very near to, if not over the mains cable entry on the pump.

Many thanks.

Not familiar with that tank. But normally you would fill to the bottom of the hood (cover), so that the top of the water is hidden. I'd expect the power intake to be 100% waterproof.

I have an AquaOne with hood filter system. It too says fill like yours.....cant understand why though. I just filled it to the top and it's fine. As far as the pumps being 100% water proof well yes they are!!

all fish r fun powerheads are 100% submergable
you can fill the tank untill you are just hitting the plastic trim.
do not over fill as these tanks are notoriouse for cappilery seepage
between the trim and hood, unless you have the new improved design
where the hood and trim are all in one :good:

Many thanks for the advice.
I'll fill it up some more. I think I do have the later design tank. The 'hood' is glued to the tank and I've got the double 13w T5 tubes.

Hello Tacklebury. Nice to meet a fellow 'ampshire 'og :good:

Out of interest, who'd you recommend for buying fish from round here? Maidenhead Aquatics at Wyevale GC in Fair Oak seem very helpful.

Cheers mate.
