Fish problem

I had high ammonia in my 10 gal tank today, so I did a 20% water change. I did not add an AmmoniaClear tablet? Is this ok? Also,about my silver mollie, I hadn't noticed before but I can see it's skull, from a top view, I noticed I could see part of it before, but not the whole thing? Is this normal? The scales seem to be a little clearer looking from the top? However, he looks fine from the sides... Do any of you have any input?

Is he eating well, swimming well, breathing well? If he's doing all these things well, Its a little puzzling. Is there still a spike. My silvers don't live through spikes, they start to shimmy, then die. Thats why I mostly keep blacks.
