My fish has stopped eating for a few days (mainly because he doesn't swim as much).

right now, he's lying on the bottom of the tank.. sometimes he'd swim or try to but he sinks to the bottom again.

I have him in a tank that can hold a couple gallons. he's been in this poor condition for a week or more..

I tried to tap him or grab him to feed him and then he'd swim around the top of the tank crazily and then sink back to the bottom.

I'm not on the verge of giving up yet, but need some advice on my next step... has anyone treated their fish to the vet's office?

Sounds like your fish has swimbladder disorder.

It's caused by injury, overfeeding or bad water quality.

First off all, don't tap the glass! Fish hate this and it is incredibly stressful. Don't grab him! Chances are he's not going to want to eat with you chasing him.

Stop trying to feed him, bettas can go up to two weeks without food, he'll be fine. Do a water change every second day. Try not to stress him; don't grab him, tap on his tank and try to keep him in a dark room and not disturb him.

What temperature is your tank? How many gallons does it hold?

it can hold 2.5gal, but the water level is halfway since it gets so heavy to carry around the house and i don't suppose he'd be using all the volume.. and for the temperature, i need to get a thermometer and probably a heater. are betta tanks supposed to carry hot water? 80 degrees sounds like a lot.

do you think there's a possibility of him getting into a better condition? if it's really swim bladder issue, i've read that it's incurable.

Only this morning i bought a king british treatment that cures constipation and swim bladder issues. its called Revitaliser Tonic and it looks like it has donde the job for mine. Although i did feed him a bit of pea aswell. :)
