I have been given a huge cast iron tub and my hubby has come up with the idea of filling it with some goldfish.

Would it be safe for the fish?

I do like the idea but i do not want to harm the fish.

Not sure, but you could line the insdie with pond liner, how will you filter it.

To be honest i have not started looking in to that yet as we only thought of it today.

it would depend on how large large is ?
cast iron has the downside of not retaining any heat during the winter and overheating during the summer ,it might be possible to house the fish part of the year outdoors then overwinter in a tank,i know a woman who keeps her fish in a large sink for 4 months of the year then returns them to the tank for the rest of the time

Thanks i had not thought of that, hows the weather up in newcastle?
