Not really fish related but just wondered what your thoughts on this are.

It's a small irritation but (grumpy old man syndrome) I was under the impression that the word 'Fish' was both singular and plural, 'Fishes' only being used by kiddies and Americans.

Now I read the word 'Fishes' cropping up more and more in UK posts?

This is intended as tongue in cheek but it does grate sometimes.

Sorry but didn't know where else to post it. :/

i use "fish" for both singular and plural cases and i'm american. :) but i think "fishes," "fishies," and "fishy" are all just playful forms because they're more fun/creative than using "fish" all the time.

as for your last statement, i think this is more suited for "tropical chit chat" or something similar, though i don't really care. :p

American who uses "fish" here, too!

Although my brain can't decide if it's "betta" or "bettas".... :X

Americans couldn't possibly comment!

Good greif! Definately not cricket, what?

Next thing you know, they'd be running our country as well as nicking and then abusing our language (both written AND spoken).

Hold on a minute....... :shout:

Anyway old bean, ye olde Oxford (that's Oxford, England) Dictionary refers to the plural of fish (n) as being either fish OR fishes.
